The PGA Tour Fall Series gets short shrift on Sundays in October. Many might have missed a spectacular display on the 71st hole of the Frys.com Open.
The par 4 was set at 298 yards. When the final threesome reached the tee, co-leader Bo Van Pelt pulled out a driver and fired a bomb that checked up 20 feet from the hole, prompting analyst Brandel Chamblee to say it was “one of the coolest shots I’ve ever seen.”
But it was nothing compared to the next two. Alex Prugh, trailing by two, fired next and coaxed the ball to “Go in!” It nearly did, landing six inches short of the cup and skipping over it, finishing three feet past the hole.
Rocco Mediate, tied for the lead, holed out from the fairway. It was his fourth hole-out of the tournament, all for eagles, on his way to a thrilling one-stroke victory.
